Using a professional solution, you can easily and rapidly convert an OST file to an IMAP account. So, I suggest giving the most well-known application, Softaken OST to IMAP Importer, a try to Export OST files to IMAP accounts like- Gmail, Microsoft 365, Hotmail, etc. It is evolving more and more popular in the Internet software industry because of several distinctive and technological qualities. It also exports OST files into PST, MSG, EML, EMLX, NSF, MBOX, TGZ, etc. This tool does a thorough scan of the whole OST file and displays a live view of every OST file and folder. Then, without wasting your time or damaging any details, just transfer the OST file to IMAP. Additionally, users can quickly and conveniently access and convert their OST file into PST with all of the data they need, including emails, contacts, calendars, journals, tasks, etc. You may open a few OST files into other various file formats with the software’s free test version if you have any questions about how it works.

Importing Outlook OST (Offline Storage Table) files directly to an IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) server can be challenging because OST files are associated with an offline copy of your mailbox and are not directly importable to an IMAP server.

However, you can indirectly accomplish this by following these general steps:

  • Sync OST with Outlook: If you have access to the original Outlook profile that created the OST file, open Outlook, and let it sync with your email server. Ensure all the OST data is up-to-date and synchronized.
  • Create a New IMAP Account in Outlook: Set up a new IMAP account in Outlook by going to File > Add Account and follow the steps to add your IMAP email account.
  • Move or Copy Emails: Once both accounts (the OST account and the newly created IMAP account) are set up in Outlook, you can try dragging and dropping or copying the emails and folders from the OST file/account to the IMAP account.
  • Export/Import Method: If dragging and dropping doesn't work, you might need to export the data from the OST file to a PST (Personal Storage Table) file and then import that PST into the IMAP account.
  • Export the data from the OST file to a PST file by going to File > Open & Export > Import/Export > Export to a file > Outlook Data File (.pst).
  • Once exported, create a new profile in Outlook connected only to the IMAP server and import the previously created PST file.
  • Use Third-Party Tools: There are third-party tools available that claim to convert OST files to other formats, including PST or directly to IMAP. Research and use these tools cautiously, ensuring they are reliable and secure. Try GainTools OST Converter or Cloud Importer tool for a safer process.

1. First, you need to convert the OST file to a PST format. This can be done using the Microsoft Outlook software. Open Outlook, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, and select "Import from another program or file" > "Outlook Data File (.pst)" > "Next". Choose the OST file and select the destination PST location. Click "Finish" to start the conversion process.

2. Once the conversion is complete, open your email client that supports IMAP (such as Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Gmail). Go to Settings > Accounts > New Account and select "IMAP". Enter your email address and password, and then click "Continue". Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

3. In your email client's settings, go to Settings > Accounts > [> More > Settings for . Select the "Server Settings" tab and enter your incoming mail server as "imap.yourdomain.com" and your outgoing mail server as "smtp.yourdomain.com". Make sure that the port numbers for IMAP and SMTP are set correctly (usually 993 for IMAP and 587 for SMTP).

4. In Outlook, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export > "Import from another program or file" > "Outlook Data File (.pst)" > "Next". Select the converted PST file and choose the destination IMAP folder in your email client. Click "Finish" to start the import process.

5. Wait for the import process to complete, and then check your email client's IMAP folder to confirm that all your emails have been successfully imported from the OST file.
