While users continue to struggle with establishing 4G connections on Reliance Jio’s network, the telecom operator has extended its alliance with Samsung for bringing 5G bands to India. The announcement took place at the biggest mobile trade show, MWC held in Barcelona, Spain. Furthermore, the Korean giant has launched a new initiative, “I&G (Infill & Growth) Project” which will assist the telco for improving both network’s capacity, and coverage throughout the nation.

The project is expected to stretch Jio’s accessibility to various rural regions by employing spectrums in the 850, 1800 and 2300MHz bands, and enable hassle-free indoor as well as outdoor connectivity in populated urban areas. Apart from these, Samsung will be introducing a slew of 5G-compatible commercial products in the coming weeks, and also, showcased a few of those at the event itself including home routers, 5G radio base station and modem chipsets. They’re planned to launch in India sometime in the future.
Incidentally, Samsung and Jio were already partners in India and signed an agreement in 2012 for covering the network’s entire scope ranging from equipment to establishment and maintenance services.
Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, during the launch, stated, “Samsung has been focused on 5G R&D for nearly half a decade, and this portfolio launch represents the culmination of a lot of hard work and industry engagement. With the pre-commercial deployment of our 5G products already underway in the US, we’re starting to see some of the earliest evidence of the potential for new and compelling 5G-driven services – it will be exciting to see it evolve as we move forward on our roadmap.”
Similar to the I&G project, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be also announcing a venture along with the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Nokia. The partnership is expected to go official tomorrow at the Mobile World Congress.

So 5G was done? I thought it was a project in Stanford university, which never met its promises.

So is USA having 5G already?
