Do water coolers cause rust at all?

Yeah they will, but i guess it will take more years than you will want to use it.

do they really give that much of an advantage of air cooling

I had water cooling before i didnt notice a huge difference

They do rust but not so soon. After all, I believe it is not regular water running through it, its some kind of coolant I guess.

You can use a liquid coolant that will not caused rust.
