SSD or increasing RAM, which is better?

I’m having a sandybridge PC since 2011 but recently it’s having some issues. The disk usage is always full even if I’m not running anything. It only has 2GB DDR3 RAM, should i increase the RAM or buy an SSD? Make your votes and suggest any other solutions.

Getting an SSD will solve the issue of maxing out disk usage. But it’s better if get more RAM and an SSD too.

I guess the SATA controller on my mobo is old!

SSD can solve this but better find the actual cause!

IF you can then try changing the mobo and then check.:no_mouth:

OK

8GB RAM is not enough?

mmm, have you checked how much swap is assigned? In my experience this is usually the main cause for your problem, switch off automatic and change it to (your current physical ram) x 1.5 x 1024 so (2 x 1024= 2048 x 1.5) = 3072 mb total swap

Windows defender causes high disk usage in certain cases of win 10.

The issue was with my hard disc. But it does work well in my friend’s PC.

:sweat: Then get a new mobo

If you’ve got 8GB of RAM definitely go for the SSD. It’s like having a new PC when you put it in, so much faster. If you’ve got 4GB or less though I’d go for the RAM first.

I’ve got 16gb of RAM and trust me it doesn’t make any big difference. Having an SSD is way better.

Lol i guess now the motherboard is fried!

100% Disk usage when doing nothing can indicate problem with some programs or since you have 2GB ram, the disk is busy because is swaping files from ram to hdd when a program is idle and being used and vice versa ( Page file ). So i guess adding more ram will make a difference. I had similar problems since i had 2GB ram too. I add another 2GB and now my pc runs smooth even when using softwares like Photoshop and Illustrator.

Adding 2GB to when you have just 2GB makes a difference. If you have like 16 and you add 16 then i dont think so, unless you’re using ram heavy softwares like 3D apps or video editor.

That issue is solved. I added 2GB of RAM so now there is total 4GB.

Great !
